Can I screen audio-visual resources that are not covered by the MPLC Licence?

Answer

Screening of audio-visual resources sourced from the library collection (the “Works”) not covered by MPLC Licence

Screening of the Works sourced from the library collection must be carried out within SUSS’ premises (including IAL) by SUSS faculty for teaching/learning purposes.

  1. The screening of the Works must be limited to the students enrolled in a course for which the screening is arranged.  Notices of scheduled screening(s) must clearly state the applicable course.
  2. The screening of the Works must not be for profit/non-commercial in nature.
  3. There must be sufficient acknowledgment of the Works screened.

The following additional conditions apply to screening of Works sourced from the library collection via online platforms (e.g. Zoom) to ensure that there is no unauthorised copying or communication in violation of the Copyright Act 2021:

  • During the screening of the Works, all downloading and recording functions offered/available on the online platforms must be deactivated.
  • The Works must be screened during designated time slot(s) and only to students enrolled in the applicable course.
  • All students are to be reminded before screening of the Works that no recording of the Works is permitted for reasons of copyright.

Please refer to the Copyright Act 2021 for details.
