Projects is a collaborative platform to allow multiple users to contribute to the same project. The Projects feature allows you to create new projects and track the other projects where you collaborate.

To create a new project, go to the Projects tab, 

1. Click on ‘Create a new project’
2. Complete the metadata fields as descriptively as possible.

3. Select the appropriate options, individual or group projects. Please consider the implications on the storage, accountability and metadata schema when choosing the option.

4. Select the appropriate Display/school group(s).
5. Add users to the project by searching on the right-hand side. You can also use the invite new users link to invite non-figshare users. An invite will be sent to the new user and he/she can register as Figshare user and login to collaborate on the project. All figshare.com accounts are provided with 20GB of private storage and are able to upload individual files up to 20GB.

Users can either be collaborators or viewers. Collaborators can comment on the project and the data within it, while viewers can only view the data.

6. To make the project public, you must first make at least one item public within the project.
7. To publish a project, click on the Manage gear wheel on top right and click ‘Publish project’.

Please also note that for projects:

• the project owner, collaborators, and viewers cannot edit another uploader’s items.
• notes and comments will always be private, as well as any draft items within the project space
• there is no concept of versioning, and no DOI will be assigned for projects.
• the applicable metric is ‘views’.
• once a project is public, any added items made public from within your project will automatically appear in the public project. To item within a project, click on cite all items to download a citation file.
